Star Wars X-wing Fleets

Below are my Star Wars X-Wing Fleets. First off all my fleets are only going to include the ships from the first three Original films, thats right Star Wars - A New Hope, Star Wars - Empire Strikes Back, and Star wars - Return of the Jedi.

Why only these films?, easy answer 'caus the others suck.
That is my opinion and that's that.

Back on track. The Rebel (Scum) fleet consists of the rebel aces pack giving me an A-wing and an B-wing.  CR90 corvette, and the Rebel transport along with its X-wing escorts. We also have Han Solos' ship the Millennium Falcon along with 3 Y-Wing (flying tanks), and finally the obligatory X-wings, I had three of these but one met with an accident as in the repair shop, close to being scrapped :( . The observant of you will notice besides the Ace pack B-Wing I do not have any others, this is because I cant get them at the moment, I only want 3 of the buggers and the suppliers are always out of stock...Gr
The Rebel Scum fleet.
The Imperial Fleet, the pride of the galaxy, unlike that Rebel scum (you can tell which fleet I root for can't you) consists of my Tie fighter swarm, all 6 of them. 3 Tie Interceptors, 2 Ace Tie Interceptors, 2 Tie Bombers, the Lambda Shuttle and Darth Vader's advance Tie fighter.
Only one advance tie I hear you cry, well I can only see one in the films, I am slowly rechecking though.  Now as to Slave 1 I do want one but again like the B-wings my supplier is having difficulty getting me one, and before you shout E(Vil)Bay at me, I am not paying those prices, thieving sod s that they are.

Imperial fleet.

Now obviously my decision limits me to what I can get for my fleets, but then again I am a child of the 70's Where Sci-Films did not need CGI, Now model ships with CGI would work.
Tatooine for now

Micro Art gaming mat & Star Trek attack wing

I have just purchased a new3'x3' gaming mat from Micro Art as to play X-Wing and Star Trek attack wing on. Although I already have a decent space gaming cloth with covers most of my table, I needed something to define the smaller gaming area required for my now two core space games, which tended to use a 3 feet squared area.

After looking on ebay, I saw the one below, there are several others available but this was the cheapest, at £27 with free P+P I though t it was a steal.

The mat comes rolled up in a long tube like bag, which is a very nice touch, although the stitching is stronger than the material, which rips easily, so I just discovered.  The Mat is of a rubber design and is awesome (Que Lego people singing "Every thing is awesome"). I think this mat is going to make a big difference to our games, not only is it easy to carry, just roll it up and put it in its bag, the rubber grips the table and does not slip. The visual impact of this mat on our games is going to make it look a whole lot better. One slight down side is that the plastic bases of our ships can slide easily on the printed surface.

Star Trek attack wing: Test game

Having now got the Star trek bug, I have now expanded my fleet with a few OP prize ships, one of them being Bok's Marauder. So I decided to do a Enterprise Vs Bok game.
Boks marauder chasing the Enterprise.

With both ships totaling 40 points, Enterprise with Picard and Photon Torpedoes, whilst the Marauder was maxed out at 39 points with Bok, a crew member, Photon torpedoes and the thought control.  Bok and Picard headed towards each other at speed, Both ships first attack was with phasers, both ships loosing a shield.  The Enterprise tried to get round the marauder  but Bok countered and managed to fire torpedoes, unfortunately for Bok he missed, but the Enterprise took off another shield.

As the movement dials were placed Bok used the thought control and adjusted  Enterprises coarse, turning it towards the table edge, with Bok moving a slow ahead.
Enterprise running out of space , Literally.
Enterprise fired and took down the last shield on Bok's marauder and causing one hull damage, in return Bok whittles the Enterprise's shields down to nothing.  The Enterprise can now only do three maneuvers to get out of trouble, sharp 3 left or right and reverse.  Bok closes the gap with a 1 ahead and so Picard opts for a sharp 3 left and actually this where the game should have ended as the Enterprise overlaps the playing edge by 3mm and should have been destroyed by the fleeing the gaming area rule. But I play fair and nudge the ship back away from the Final Frontier. So now needing to do a green maneuver to get rid of the auxiliary power token from the 3 hard left. Bok trying to stay behind the Enterprise decides not to use his maneuverability to his advantage and chooses a maneuver that accidentally puts the marauder on a collision course with the Final Frontier.

Bok would need to do a reverse course next turn but unfortunately for him, Enterprise fives its aft phasers getting 4 hits, 2 of which are critical, Bok's helms man tries in vain to avoid the phaser fire, but the ship is vaporized in one hit.

Ops... With 4 hits Boks marauder vaporizes.

Star Trek Attack Wing: DS9 game.

DS9 in Cardassian hands, escorted by Cardassian ships takes on the might of the Federation and Romulan empire.

I bet he can't get the dice to land like that again.

Cardassian ships about to be obliterated.

DS9 explodes due to a combined barage from 3 ships, who then go on to blow each other up.

X-wing Storage

Having now got the Star Wars X-wing bug, I now have purchased 3 boxed sets which gives me 3 x-wings and 6 Tie Fighters. I also have an Advance Tie and 3 A wings.

I have purchased a Plano 5231 carring box of Amazon.Com as teh Uk site does not have these for sale.

The Plano 5231 comes with two layers. The aditional layer with small compartments sits on top the of the lid to the main compartment. this allows the storage of small componants. Each row of both layers can be configured to suit the users needs (See pictures below). This is how I configured mine.

The Plano 5231
Top layer, where I keep all my tokens.

Bottom layer where the ships and the cards are located.

Star wars - Cue Music ......

X-wing has commeth in to my collection. Having seen this knocking around for the last few months, I finally sucummed to temptation and purchased a couple of starter sets and the advanced Tie Fighter and Y wing.

Having ordered it of E(vil)Bay, it arrived a few days later and I was deeply impressed by the quality of Everything.  I was already familiar with the rules, having watched a few vids on you tube and Fantasy Flights web site.

Then the inevitable happened I turned over the TV and Hey presto STAR WARS was on and that is it I am now hooked. Every time I contemplate on playing this game or read the rule booklet the Star wars theme tune plays in my head and every time I pick up a Tie fighter the Scream, screams at me.

So my friend Scott comes round and I drag him into the shed to play a game and now he is hooked. The rules are simple so no arguing and the chances to make mistakes in the manoeuvre phase is unlimited.. We have had several ships turning the wrong way because we were not careful enough to double check the orientation.

So Now I await the release of A wings and the Millennium Falcon.....And now to purchase a sound track CD for back ground music.

GAME REPORT

Our first proper game was the Shuttle mission with myself playing the Rebels and Scott the Imperium.  Scott went straight for the Shuttle ignoring the X-wing where possible.

He only targeted the X-wing if he did not have a shot at the Shuttle. The Shuttle was almost destroyed. But the X-wing killed a Tie fighter Right at the crucial moment.

But with One turn to go before the shuttle left the table a reserve Tie came on right in its path, blocking a straight run for the table edge.

It all came down to us both making crucial manoeuvres to either protect the Shuttle or destroy it.
First to move was the shuttle and it banked left, the reserve tie moved straight past the shuttle giving it no chance of shooting it, it was down to the second Tie to bank hard right.....

But  Scott misread his dial and the Tie banked hard LEFT! meaning it did not have a shot at the shuttle.

Worst to come was that my X-wing should have banked Hard Right... but I too had misread the dial and my X-wing turned away from the combat banking hard LEFT!!!!!

Next turn the shuttle left the game...Rebel win.

We replayed the turn with the correct manoeuvre's and in that alternate universe, the X-wing missed the tie and the Tie blew up the shuttle.

So it just goes to show that you need to double check your dial before placing.

Tie fighter about to be blasted by the X-wing.

Even with target lock that tie survived.

Scott looks on as his Tie fighter faces death.

Erm...Ramming Speed.

Scott contemplates his next move.

Me caught reading the rules whilst Scott sneaks to the toilet.

Star Wars brings the kid outta you...Big Style....

DIE REBEL SCUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
